Ross Skinner: Recent Paintings.

An exhibition of new oil paintings from inside to Rodd Point.

… that which strikes me as the beauty of the light, … not always using obviously beautiful subject matter.;

Well known for his nudes and still life´s, Ross Skinner has continued to paint the observable things around his studio and then taken his observing eye alone the water from Haberfield to Rodd Point painting some extraordinary works of painterly observation.

I have been looking at… my immediate environment; flowers from the garden, shadows passing across the yard, and views across Iron Cove from the local parks.
For me this is an instinctive approach, where my art comes to reflect my everyday experience and perceptions of the things around me. Through oil and watercolour I have tried to put down that which strikes me as the beauty of the light, while not always using obviously beautiful subject matter.
…We shouldn´t have to go on holiday or be in a room with a “view”, before we open our eyes to what´s in front of us. In this I wish to follow in the footsteps of such disparate, but to me, important artists who have worked from their own immediate environments such as Pierre Bonnard, Clarice Beckett and Frank Auerbach.

Ross Skinner has won numerous Art awards since 1995, including the Sesqui-Centenary Glebe Painting Prize 2009, Port Macquarie Art Prize 2007, and has been regularly highly commended by award judges.

This is Ross Skinner´s first solo exhibition at Artsite.
