For Mo Orkiszewski, the creative process is long, intense and rewarding.

No art is made without lots of dark rich blood flowing through it, and it quite often needs a few tears of frustration and even anger and a lot of sweat […] to get to the truth. (Mo Orkiszewski 2016)

Living and working in Sydney, Mo Orkiszewski is a contemporary artist who has travelled a unique path of making, from glass artist, to artist books, to installation and talismans for the 21st Century.

Working across a broad range of media and materials, stitching, folding, assemblage, collage, drawing, engraving, sculpting, collecting, Orkiszewski´s work is bridging the alternative culture and amulets of 20th century mysticism towards a 21st century metaphorical interpretation.

Her work is quirky, totemic, imbued with symbolism and meaning, a touch of occult power and a strong material basis.

Shelves of a lifetime collection, ever-growing, of accumulated curios surround her in her Newtown studio. These she re-assembles anew ("Curiouser and curiouser!" Cried Alice ), working and reworking both found and created objects to new meaning, raising them from the mundane for our startled attention.

Mo´s strong passions and beliefs are very evident in the empathetic nature of her illustrations of the Lyrics of Old Man Crow, the bandaged hearts ongoing project, and her current work in progress, Braille for the Soul.

Mo Orkiszewski is a graduate of the Sydney College of the Arts and a horticulturist with a passion for the urban garden that supports her magpie like collecting of desiccated birds, bats, anthrophormic bits and pieces. A miscellanea that attracts her natural bower bird vision, a talisman of a future construct(ion).
