Sound Drawing, 2020

Etching/Rag paper, 30.5 x 25cm Framed.
” I am trained as a classical musician and I perform professionally as a viola player, as well as practising art. This work is a response to listening to a piece of symphonic music that has an emotional hold on me. To make the work, I surrounded myself with the music and limited all other distractions, and let my body’s gestural responses be recorded on paper. The development of this drawing into an etching meant that I could revisit the music in an almost graphic score form – one that connects me to the emotional experience of hearing that piece of music. The symphonic work itself remains anonymous to viewers, but the work communicates a sense of temporal gesture: a sound drawing.” ~ Charlotte Fetherston, 2021
