The Black Bile Series: Desire, 2020

Pen/Ink on Paper. 38x31cm
Framed (see photo).
“This work, ‘Desire’ is one part of a series of drawings called “Black Bile” which explores the embodiments of melancholia and how it affects one’s physical health. The word melancholia itself originated from Ancient Greek that means black bile. “Desire” is about our obsessions in achieving material gains and self-indulgence. There would be a point where this obsession becomes unhealthy that it creates aches within the body as it is symbolised by the black substance that is omitted by the woman at the centre of the artwork.” ~ Mira Nurdianti 2021
