Fire Is Approaching, 2020

Oil, Encaustic painting on Board. 50 x 50cm
“In one of my many trips to Alice Springs I visited Standley Chasm, where a huge fire was approaching. Although we were in a safe zone and the fire team kept us secure, it was an experience I will never forget. We were eventually evacuated, but a week later I was able to revisit the Chasm. It looked like a disaster zone. Yet, within weeks, as nature took its course, the flora rose up again like a phoenix. Although fires have been part of the Australian landscape for millennia, I wonder how many more challenging fire devastations will occur in the future as world temperatures continue to rise due to climate change”. ~ Randal Arvilla, 2020
