Erika Cholich

Erika Cholich is a local Sydney artist who has been exhibited as finalist in the 2019 Archibald Prize Exhibition, at the Art Gallery of NSW.

She has been a regular finalist in the Hunters Hill Art Prize, Burwood Art Prize and the Camden Art Prize.

Erika Cholich is currently working towards her first Solo Exhibition with Artsite Galleries in late 2021.

Erika works in oil paint directly from life, primarily in the still-life and portraiture genres. She describes her practice of engaging with the subject as an important aspect of her creative process. "Working from life forces the artist to contend with limitations and is experiential and transient in nature. Outcomes are dependent on 'real-time' factors." notes Erika, and  she  "is interested in capturing life and translating its intangible energy onto canvas".

She employs a combination of technical skill, with intuitive mark making, "always searching for a balance of the known and the perceived".

Erika was born in Cleveland, Ohio (USA) completing both her undergrad and graduate work in the area before living around the world and settling in Sydney.
