Kerry Johns
"My painting draws on the imagery of the landscape in which I am living at the time and to which I am emotionally attached. Periods of plein air drawing in the particular landscape result in an understanding and an empathy with the character of place." ~ Kerry Johns.
Johns' describes her work as building upon the legacy of modernists such as Cezanne, Matisse and Bonnard, Milton Avery and Sean Scully who understood the integrity of the painting language itself while giving equal weight to the feeling or sensate nature of the subject.
